Weigh House
Build by Lieven de Key in 1597, fronts in stone. Goods transported by ships were weighted here, so tax could be paid. Now a restaurant.
County House
Build in 1789 as a mansion for the banker Henry Hope. Later residence of king Louis Napoleon. From 1827 it housed various museums. Since 1930 seat of the County North-Holland.
Cathedral Basilica St. Bavo
Roman Catholic church, seat of the bishop. The second largest church in the Netherlands. Build in three phases between 1895 and 1930, after a design by Jos. Cuypers. Magnificent building, glorious interior.
Kenaupark and Ramparts
Once part of the City Fortifications, the Ramparts (‘Bolwerken’) were transformed in the middle of the nineteenth century into a citypark by the famous landscape and garden architect Zocher. The Kenaupark was designed by him in 1865. Some years later a monumental row of gentlemen houses and some detached residences were build around this park.
